Sometimes We Stood Still But She Never Did

=====

for Joan Boyd celebrating 90 wonderful years!

Back in the day when we played in the yard
The skies were blue and going inside was really hard

We’d see Mom headed out to gather up her brood
Our plans made sense no matter how rude

Let’s stand really quiet maybe then Mom won’t see us
Talk all you want later Dan but right not don’t betray us

Be still just like Bill. Stand firm like a man
Oh come on---just buck up Ann!

From Seattle up north to Alabama down south
she was our champion and our anchor
so much more than most moms

If we tried to give up she helped us move on
Through the hard times she saw clearest
what had to be done

Not a bus she’s not ridden not a route she don’t know
Not an inch she’s been given But everywhere we may g0
we know that she’s right there with us moving forward all along
Everyday we can praise her with this simple song:

Sometimes we stood still thinking maybe to fool you
But you always moved forward dragging us along
We held still without breathing while you looked through the dark
seeing us---seeing through us---seeing into our hearts
