This Time Around

For Molly Faley in celebration of the day of her birth, oh so many years ago

It’s still real early though it seems--that time’s run out on all your dreams
There’s still a chance for what you know--this ain’t the last great rodeo
In spite of long hard days gone by--and all the times you’ve tried
Some work remains--you’re not the same--this time around

Where would you go what would you do--who would you take along with you?
If life rewound--and if you’d found--a way to do it all over again
If it were me I’d say my friend--you did us proud, right through to the end
We like the way you’ve played the game -- this time around

When you look into that glass--that sees back through you to the past
The lines, the grey, the scars, the tears--the ways to count out all the years
Just remember where you’ve been--the lives you gave--and then
Remember how good it’s all been--this time around

Were would you go what would you do--who would you take along with you?
If life rewound--and if you’d found--a way to do it all over again
If it were me I’d say my friend--you did us proud, right through to the end
We like the way you’ve played the game -- this time around

A chance to look back and decide--to see if time is on your side
It’s slipped away so fast that you have never known
That what is left it can be--more than things you never seen
The second half’s always the best part of the show

Where would you go what would you do--who would you take along with you?
If life rewound--and if you’d found--a way to do it all over again
If it were me I’d say my friend--you did us proud, right through to the end
We like the way you’ve played the game -- this time around
